Wrong Way Drivers Run Rampant on Lake Shore Drive
Over the week between February 9th
, there have been two accidents on Lake Shore Drive
. Both have involved drivers who took a wrong turn and ended up travelling the wrong way on the freeway. Because the outer drive is always so busy, these negligent drivers have set off chain reaction accidents that have injured many people.
On February 9th
, three people were injured when a woman driving a Nissan GTR sports car
crashed into another car around 2 in the morning. The accident occurred near the Field Museum and involved a Toyota Corolla that also hit a van. In that Corolla was Malgorzata Solek who was on her way home from work.
Solek had to be removed from her car by the Jaws of Life and transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital. The doctors had to immediately operate on her to stop internal bleeding. Solek is expected to survive her injuries yet her son has been vocal in asking for charges to be brought to the wrong way driver. "For me, it's attempted murder, someone who's driving the wrong way and hit another car."
A week later, a 42 year old woman
turned the wrong direction onto Lake Shore Drive by the north side neighborhood of Lakeview. Around 11:30 pm on the 16th
, the driver of a Toyota Corolla hit a number of cars and injured a total of six people
. The first accident involved a Jetta driven by a 22 year old woman and then a Jetta driven by a 46 year old man. Luckily, no one's life was threatened by the injuries sustained in the accident.
