Hit-and-Run Accident Leaves Newborn Baby Parentless
At the beginning of March
, a newborn baby was delivered in an emergency surgery after his parents were killed on their way to the hospital, in New York. According to the Chicago Tribune, the accident that left the newborn parentless was a hit-and-run. The parents were taken to New York's Bellevue Hospital, where the baby was delivered. However, the baby boy did not make it and died from injuries that night, according to a hospital spokesperson.
Parents, Raizy and Nachman Glauber, both 21, lived in Brooklyn and were Orthodox Jews; they were headed to the hospital to have their first child. Because of religious tradition, the baby will be named, circumcised and buried. Police were searching for the hit-and-run driver and the female passenger who left the scene of the accident that killed the new parents. Their BMW sedan hit the side of the taxi that the couple were in, and the pair fled the scene on foot and left the car behind. The BMW was speeding down the street, where the taxi was stopped at a stop sign, according to witnesses. The taxi driver was taken to a local hospital and was released.
The mother, Raizy, was only six months pregnant and went to the hospital because she was not feeling well. The baby boy was only three pounds when he was delivered. A funeral for the parents was held in Brooklyn. The baby will be buried in Orange County, New York.
