Naperville slip and fall injury lawyer

Slip and fall accidents can happen anywhere at any time. There are many reasons for slip and fall injuries, such as inadequate lighting, substances on the walkway, poor or damaged flooring, or obstacles on the floor that cause a tripping hazard. Thousands of Americans suffer from slip and fall injuries each year. According to the National Safety Council, approximately 9.2 million people were treated in emergency rooms for fall-related injuries in 2016. Although a lot of people might consider them minor, injuries from slips or falls can actually be quite severe. Common injuries from slips and falls include muscle strains, sprained ankles and wrists, bone breaks and fractures, joint dislocations, spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries, and even death in certain scenarios. In many cases, these slips and falls are due to negligent property owners, but what does negligence mean, and how can it be proven?

Duty of Reasonable Care

According to the Illinois Premises Liability Act, each property owner has an obligation to make sure their property is reasonably safe for occupants. This is called the duty of reasonable care. This means property owners have the responsibility of making sure their property is free of hazards that a “reasonable person” would deem to be dangerous.

Lombard, IL Dram Shop personal injury lawyer

Even after years of aggressive marketing campaigns and education, drunk driving still remains one of the biggest threats to American drivers and passengers. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), there were more than 10,800 deaths from alcohol-related traffic crashes in the United States in 2017. More than 300 of those people were killed in Illinois, representing 30 percent of all of Illinois’ traffic deaths in 2017. Even more people have been injured because of alcohol-related traffic accidents. Many of these accidents are serious and tragic, especially since they can almost always be prevented. Families of injured or deceased victims often look to place blame somewhere. In the state of Illinois, one of the entities that can possibly be held responsible for drunk drivers is the establishment where the drivers drank the alcohol, often a bar or restaurant.

What Is the Dram Shop Act?

Also known as the Illinois Liquor Control Act, the Dram Shop Act is what allows bars and other specific establishments to be held liable for damages that are caused by an intoxicated person. The Act states that people who have suffered injuries or sustained damages caused by an intoxicated person to whom alcohol was sold by an establishment can place liability for such damages or injuries on the establishment itself.

IL accident lawyerCar accidents are traumatic events that can elicit very different reactions from witnesses and victims. The shock of the impact and repercussions of injuries may be felt immediately, or could be delayed for minutes, hours, or days. How an accident victim responds to the immediate aftermath of a car crash can make a significant difference in his/her ability to recover compensation.

Some of the actions advised are fairly obvious or intuitive, but others would not necessarily occur to a victim absorbing the shock of the accident, and knowing in advance how to act in the event of an accident can save a lot of time and effort if a lawsuit is filed at a later date.

Even if this information is viewed following an accident, it can still prove useful to a victim because it will inform him/her what to do in the days and months following the collision to both preserve and build a strong car accident personal injury lawsuit. Given that the injuries from a car accident can affect a person’s life indefinitely, putting together the building blocks of a car accident claim from the very beginning is the best way to ensure damages are paid, and an overview of what to focus on an accident scene and as part of the recovery process will follow below.

pedestrian accident, pedestrian accident rates, DuPage County personal injury lawyer, car accident injuries, car accident claimsResidents of DuPage County can be at risk of a pedestrian accident involving a distracted motorist almost anywhere, from a parking lot in Lombard to a crosswalk in downtown Chicago. Does it seem like you are hearing about more and more pedestrian accidents that result in serious and fatal injuries? According to a recent report from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), pedestrian deaths have indeed increased recently. Since 2009, the rate of deadly pedestrian accidents has risen by 46 percent, and pedestrian crashes have become both deadlier and more frequent, according to the report.

While fatal pedestrian accidents are on the rise, the IIHS report suggests that there may be some solutions. Furthermore, curbing distracted walking behaviors can help to keep pedestrians focused so that they can avoid dangerous collisions with automobiles.

boat accidents, boating safety, DuPage County boat accident lawyer, personal injury claim, car accidentWhile Illinois certainly is not a state on the ocean, many Lombard residents routinely spend summer vacations boating on Lake Michigan and the other Great Lakes. However, sometimes people do not think about the serious boat accident risks that can arise when out on the water. Boats are motor vehicles. Therefore, if people are not careful, serious crashes can lead to life-threatening personal injuries.

Always Wearing a Life Jacket on the Water

The National Safe Boating Council recently introduced a campaign called “Wear It,” which encourages anyone who plans to go boating to take the “Life Jacket Pledge.” What is the pledge? In short, it is a promise to be safe and responsible out on the water. Safety means always wearing a life jacket. Those who take the pledge agree to the following:
